This website has been modified to act as a Bulletin Board during emergencies. Our Senior Staff have all been trained to upload critical information to the website. If you have evacuated from the Island, aceess this website to see if up-to-date information is available. It will be on the very first page.
Hurricane Season runs from June 1 through November 30. Owners should familiarize themselves with the plans for emergencies, particularly their duties in being prepared and evacuating if a hurricane threatens Hilton Head Island.
Make sure that you have a personal emergency plan in place for the securing of your property.
Place all irreplaceable items, valuables, important documents, etc., in a central location for safekeeping. A plan for safe transport of these items should be a part of your personal emergency plan.
Designate a local emergency contact person(s) in the event of your absence during an emergency and forward the name and phone number of this person(s) to the Security Department.
Monitor the weather channel for emergency conditions, which can change very quickly.
Monitor information bulletins from Wexford's Management Team and Security Department.
If you own a boat, ensure that the Harbourmaster has on file a current hurricane plan for the securing of your vessel.
Evacuation orders can come at any hour of the day or night, therefore, have your evacuation destination pre-determined.
Monitor announcements from emergency broadcasts and Wexford Security.
Put your personal emergency plan for the securing your property into action. This plan should also include provisions for pets. Do not leave pets behind.
All vessels must be properly secured prior to evacuating. Remember to take all irreplaceable items, valuables, and important documents with you when you leave.
Notify Security when leaving the plantation. Follow the established evacuation route for Wexford Plantation: Dunnigan's Ally to Arrow Road; Arrow Road to Palmetto Bay Road; Palmetto Bay Road to the Cross Island Parkway.
Anticipate and be prepared for long delays on the road during evacuation.
Monitor local radio and television broadcasts, i.e., Savannah and Charleston, as well as this website, www.wexfordplantation.com, if operational. In addition, Wexford Plantation has an information telephone line that will be updated regularly with all of the latest information on emergency conditions and re-entry to the plantation.
Island residents will not be allowed to return until permission is received from the Beaufort County Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.).
Mentally prepare yourself and family members for potential devastation.
In the event that the Island is devastated by a storm, please do not return (even though permission is authorized by the E.O.C.) unless you and your family members are prepared to survive on your own. Basic public services, utilities, food, water, etc. may not be available.
